چکیده
T he term primary torsion dystonia describes a group of neurodegenerative disorders characterized by prolonged muscle contractions that cause sustained twisting movements and abnormal postures of affected body parts. Despite early clear descriptions of this disorder, primary torsion dystonia was recognized as a distinct entity very recently, and it was more than half a century before physicians accepted that this seemingly bizarre condition was due to a hereditary brain disease. This article highlights several citations regarding the history of the initial descriptions and the discoveries of the genetic aspects of the disease.

متن کاملBoston and the history of biomagnetism.
It is of historical interest that our latest conference, Biomag 2004 (14 International Conference on Biomagnetism), is taking place in Boston. There are two historical events to consider. First, because the initial biomagnetic SQUID measurements were made about 3 km away in Cambridge (in 1969), this Boston area seems to be called "the birthplace of biomagnetism" [Science, 1989], so in a sense w...
متن کاملEvolution of a research field—a micro (RNA) example
Background. Every new scientific field can be traced back to a single, seminal publication. Therefore, a bibliometric analysis can yield significant insights into the history and potential future of a research field. This year marks 21 years since that first ground-breaking microRNA (miRNA) publication. Here, we make the case that the miRNA field is mature, utilising bibliometrics. Methods. Uti...

متن کاملAnalyzing Citation-Distance Networks for Evaluating Publication Impact
Studying citation patterns of scholarly articles has been of interest to many researchers from various disciplines. While the relationship of citations and scientific impact has been widely studied in the literature, in this paper we develop the idea of analyzing the semantic distance of scholarly articles in a citation network (citation-distance network) to uncover patterns that reflect scient...
